When a group of men from the church began meeting to study the biblical view of manhood and support each other in carrying out God’s vision for manhood, I asked us to come up with some thoughts to put to music that would fit with our study. Even though I am not very comfortable writing music on a minor scale, I felt a song in minor key would better express the mood of this type of song. I wrote the first couple of verses, and had my youngest son, William, write the third verse. After sharing the words with the group, we had a discussion on thoughts to include in the last verse. The original lyrics of the fourth verse was, “So we commit to leading…” But in order to make the song appropriate for congregational sing, I changed it to “So we commit to serving…” which includes leadership and other types of service.
